On our continuing journey through the musical cosmos, we find ourselves once again visiting the Augmented Scale system, a not too often visited part of the Western musical galaxy, 'though we've been here before.

Like the octatonic Diminished Scale system and its hexatonic subset - the Tritone Scale system - the Augmented Scale is both synthetic (not derived from the Major Scale matrix - built on successive Perfect 5ths / 4ths) and symmetrical (sporting a repeating interval pattern).

The Augmented Scale can be, and has been, a useful and colorful alternative to the ubiquitous sound of Major or minor harmony, as it contains both Major and minor triads.
